The BOCNE celebrated the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a fabulous evening at the Union Club.  Forty four members and guests participated in an action-packed evening of fun and games.  Activities included:

  • Pass the Parcel, VE Day Edition!
  • Five rounds of WW2 / VE Day-themed BINGO
  • Singing of popular WW2-era songs, including "We'll Meet Again" and "The Lambeth Walk"
  • WW2 Word Scramble
  • WW2 Code Breaking
We also joined London during the evening to view a 'live' broadcast of the VE-Day Announcement made by Prime Minister Winston Churchill from 10 Downing Street.

Each attendee also received an 'air dropped' special ration box, complete with a Govt.-issued ration card, containing British sweets in celebration of VE Day.

As can be seen in the photos below, the Oak Room was decorated in the format of a VE Day street party and many members wore 1940s era clothing.

The evening included singing 1940s classics "We'll Meet Again", "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree", and "The Lambeth Walk".  Video of the sing along is included below.
